Now it is easy to monitor and manage fetal health, that too with the help of a cheap and portable device. It has been successful in being an alternative to other devices which would be expensive, and are usually used in the doctor’s offices in countries that are highly developed.
This device is known as Sense4Baby and has been especially designed by engineers at a medical research organization known as West Wireless Health Institute which works with a non-profit aim. Their mission is to basically reduce the costs and expenses of health care by using wireless technology. They are currently planning to organize tests at some of the major healthcare centers in the U.S. However; the device has not yet been accepted and given official approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
This device is currently being used by obstetricians, during the period of the third trimester. This is the time when the risk related to pregnancies and the fetus’s health is at its peak. Therefore, the device comes in handy to measure and keep a check on the fetal heart rate, uterine contractions and similar symptoms which may provide information about the fetus’s levels of distress, if any. In the case of a healthy fetus, the heart rate goes down during a contraction and then comes rapidly back to its normal rate. If there is any disturbance in the changes of heart rate; this could be considered a sign of trouble and as an indication that further effective steps should be taken.
