For a change wouldn’t it be nice to watch your favorite show without somebody yelling “turn it down”? Here is a device that can do just that. It can essentially make sound disappear for those who are generally annoyed by it.
This device, invented by Woody Norris, is capable of directing sound to a specific person.
According to his speech on TED, his device is already picked by sony and abc to give a new TV watching experience in shopping centers. Basically, one can listen to TV while in line, and also avoid hearing the TV by steping out of the line.
In addition to its uses in shopping centers, car industry can use this very efficiently too. In fact, per Woordy Norris some car companies in Detroit already are looking to use it. At least one good scenario where this can be used in cars is for watching/listing to different media. Kids can watch whatever they want in the back seat while you are listening to your favorite podcast.
Below you will find Woody Norris’s speech at TED conference. Watch and enjoy!
