Word Lens: Translate Text on Your iPhone

iPhone 4 has certainly raised the performance bar, but its unique apps are what makes it an irresistible choice for customers. The latest sensation called ‘Word Lens’ will take iPhone’s popularity a step further. This will now be a perfect gadget for the travelers and tourists. No need for bulky and flimsy   dictionaries and no need to ask the snobby translator for whom you are never good enough to speak his language.

How does this app work? Well, whenever  you see a sign or a board in some foreign language , you just start the Word Lens app on your iPhone and it will show you the translated text. The version available right now only translates from English to Spanish and Spanish to English and more languages are expected to come shortly.

Beware the free app available for download does not do any translation. You will have to pay $4.95 to translate the text from English to Spanish and another $4.95 to translate the text from English to Spanish.

Word Lens works fine as long as the image it translates is in one language but it will be interesting to see how this app translates an image containing both English and Spanish or some other languages.

If freelancing websites are any indication of market trends then you can see  see iPhone app creation is the hottest skill in demand so we can expect a lot of new and interesting apps in 2011. You will see a lot of Word Lens like apps.
